Project Overview

This initiative addressed the unprecedented humanitarian crisis resulting from the mass exodus of over 620,000 Rohingya refugees from Myanmar’s Rakhine state to Bangladesh in 2017. Triggered by violence and persecution, this became the world’s fastest-growing refugee emergency. The initiative focused on delivering life-saving support including shelter, water, medical care, and protection for the most vulnerable.
Beneficiary Profile
The primary beneficiaries are Rohingya refugees who fled systematic violence and persecution. Predominantly women and children, many arrived in Bangladesh malnourished and traumatized after days of travel through monsoon-hit jungles. The refugees settled in and around Cox’s Bazar, often in informal, overcrowded camps with limited access to basic services.
Safavi's Role
Safavi supported this emergency response by funding UNHCR’s on-the-ground operations. Contributions helped scale up urgent relief efforts, including airlifting supplies, deploying medical staff, constructing shelters, and facilitating water and sanitation projects. Safavi’s involvement complemented international donor mobilization and helped accelerate delivery of vital aid.

Purpose & Signifigance

The scale and urgency of the Rohingya crisis demanded swift, sustained international action. Safavi's contribution helped mitigate suffering and reaffirmed the organization's mission to support dignity, safety, and survival in times of grave crisis.
Future Outlook
While the immediate emergency response laid the foundation, ongoing support is crucial. Safavi continues to monitor developments and is committed to supporting sustainable solutions for displaced Rohingya communities, including health, education, and livelihood initiatives where possible.
