Project Overview

The Safavi Philanthropic Foundation Climate Research Endowed Fund supports pioneering research at the intersection of women and climate change. In partnership with the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS), this initiative examines the disproportionate impacts of climate change on women, particularly in fragile and vulnerable settings, and champions their leadership as agents of resilience and sustainable solutions.
Beneficiary Profile
This initiative directly benefits grassroots women leaders in regions facing complex challenges from climate-related disasters and socio-political instability. These women, often from marginalized backgrounds, are actively leading efforts in sustainable natural resource management, community adaptation, and peacebuilding within their local contexts.
Safavi's Role
Safavi provided funding to establish the Safavi Philanthropic Foundation Climate Research Endowed Fund at GIWPS, while also supporting the institute’s core mission to ‘build the evidence-based case for a focus on women, peace, and security.’ This dual investment advances climate-gender-conflict research, sustains policy analysis, and strengthens advocacy for women’s leadership in climate adaptation and peace processes.
