Project Overview

This initiative addresses the dire humanitarian crisis faced by the Rohingya, a stateless Muslim minority who have fled Myanmar to escape persecution and violence. Since August 2017, hundreds of thousands of refugees have arrived in Bangladesh, often after grueling journeys by foot or sea. Safavi, in collaboration with UNHCR, responded by supporting emergency relief operations to meet the overwhelming need for shelter, clean water, and healthcare.
Beneficiary Profile
The direct beneficiaries of this initiative are over 730,000 Rohingya refugees who fled Myanmar’s Rakhine State, many of whom are women and children. Concentrated in camps around Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh—including Kutupalong and Nayapara—these communities face extreme vulnerability. Many arrive with trauma, injuries, and without basic necessities.
Safavi's Role
Safavi played a critical role as a partner funder to UNHCR, contributing to emergency operations on the ground. Through this partnership, Safavi helped deliver over 1,500 metric tons of life-saving aid including family tents, blankets, water containers, and essential hygiene supplies. Their support also enabled the construction of infrastructure such as roads, latrines, and wells at the Kutupalong Extension site.

Impact Achieved
The initiative reached over 250,000 refugees with essential supplies and services. More than 500 latrines and nearly 60 wells were constructed, significantly reducing the risk of disease outbreaks. By partnering in the establishment of a referral system for victims of gender-based violence and protection support for children, Safavi contributed to a safer, more stable environment for the most vulnerable.
Purpose & Signifigance
This initiative reflects Safavi’s commitment to protecting human dignity and responding to crises affecting marginalized populations. The decision to support this effort was rooted in Safavi’s core values of compassion, justice, and international solidarity. By acting swiftly, Safavi helped alleviate suffering and stabilize conditions during one of the fastest-growing refugee emergencies in the world.
Future Outlook
While emergency needs continue, Safavi is evaluating opportunities for sustained involvement, including support for long-term recovery and resilience-building in the refugee camps. Future phases may focus on education, mental health, and livelihood support to help refugee families rebuild their lives.
